Lucha-bles

You know how drinks like Snapple have facts about random things on the inside of the cap? Sometimes food for kids will do it too, like on the back of a Lunchables or something.

Where’s the one with wrestling facts. Heck, just make it lucha libre facts.

You know what I learned today? That it’s the Huracanrana, not the Hurricanrana. Or it can be the Huracarrana. I just thought because there’s the twist and flip that maybe it was a play on words with hurricane… But I am a fool.

The Huracarrana is a move invented by the legendary Huracan Ramirez where the attacker jumps on the shoulders of the target, basically sitting, then bends backwards and grabs their target’s legs/reaches the ground. The attacker then pulls the target down using their legs (wrapped around the target’s neck) and the momentum of them bending backwards. It’s an elegant, acrobatic pin.

There’s a US version called the Frankensteiner where you just toss the target rather than pin, and there’s the reverse where you jump at the target from behind. But the heart of it is using the leg lock around the neck to flip your target.

Anyway, there should be a lot more lucha out there. It’s crazy stuff. For now, we spread the good word of lucha by mouth and by shirt.

Luchadorned by Redwane

Redwane is a simple man. An art director from Algeria, there are two passions in his life: pizza and pop culture T-shirts. This week, I am stuck in the regrettable position of informing you all that there is no pizza. I’m sorry. The good news is that we do have pop culture T-shirts. Shocking, I know. They are Redwane’s T-shirts as well. Just in case you missed the connection.
