Teeing Off!

Welcome friends, enemies, frenemies, enemiends to the launch of the newest graphic t-shirt site on the internet (at time of publication): Mediocritee!

Now, before you get worried: no, Mediocritee will not simply be a site that sells shirts celebrating Mediocritee. Maybe it’s a little weird for our first offering is basically an advertisement for something that you cannot possibly have any allegiance to, as it is brand new. Then again, we are a little weird. And besides, with such a self-explanatory set of designs (more on that in a moment), we’re free to give you a rundown of how things will work around here.

First off, you might be wondering: what’s with the name? Well, you see, our parent company is Mediocre Laboratories. The noun form of mediocre is mediocrity, the final syllable of which is pronounced like ‘tee’ which is shorthand for ‘t-shirt,’ which is the product that we sell.

Oh, did you want something more philosophical? Whoops! Our idea is that the shirt is not what’s important. What’s important is the art on the shirt and the artist who created it. The shirt is a canvas, if you will. (But the shirts will never be made of canvas. We can promise that.)

Some basic logistical points:

New designs every Monday: Unlike our friends over at Meh, we won’t be rolling things over every night at midnight. Instead, there will be one set of designs each week, starting on Monday at 11am eastern. This gives you time to really give your purchase (or lack thereof) some thought.

There will be 2 options: Each design will have 2 variations. Sometimes, the variations will be only slightly different. Other times, they might be more pronounced. Use the scrolly-bar-thingy (the technical term) to see the difference.

But there’s actually only 1 option: When a single design costs $10, and both designs costs $15, how could you not buy both?! It’s a better value, and besides it’s sort of fun to watch your friends squint at your shirt, confused, and say something like, “I thought the dog was wearing a hat,” or “I thought the monster was smiling while he decimated the city,” or what have you.

Anyway, those are basics. Take a look around, hop in the forum, let us know if you have any questions or comments, and generally make yourself at home. Because we’re gonna be here all week! And next week! And the week after that!

Why did we give ourselves all this new work?

Mediocritee Launch Tee by Dan Zettwoch

St. Louis artist Dan Zettwoch describes his work as, “slice-of-life comics, goofball illustrations, how-to diagrams, and folksy screenprints.” We describe it as, “just some real great stuff, Dan! Truly!” Aside from helping us launch shirt sites and filling the corners of our various sites with cool cartoons, he’s also published several books such as Birdseye Bristoe, Amazing Facts & Beyond, and lots of mini-comics (which he puts out himself). His non-fiction graphic novel “CARS: Engines that Move You” will be available everywhere in May 2019.

Check him out at danzettwoch.com, or on twitter, @DanZettwoch.

We'll have a mix of designs, of course, but what kinds of designs do you want to see the most of here?
